Out with the old…and in with the new! There comes a time when older lavender plants must be replaced. They get “woody” and unattractive and there really is no way to fix them according to Victor Gonzales from Victor’s Lavender Farm. So, with Victor’s advice and a generous donation from his farm, we planted 80 new lavender plants.

With the help from the City of Sequim, we removed 60+ old lavender plants and prepared to add our new ones.

The first step was to roll out black plastic for weed control…of course the day we did this it was pouring rain! The city provided us with pea gravel…approximately 15 yards total.

John burned the holes every 4 feet to ready the spaces for planting.

Jean brought her trusty auger to make the job go faster!

We had a full crew and a sunny day!

DONE! Now we wait for spring to see how fast the fill in the space. The varieties we planted are all French lavender—-Edelweiss (white), Gros Bleu, Grosso, and Impress Purple—-(blues). We will have plant markers to indicate the varieties. Thanks to everyone who helped with this project!
